The Virginia Department of Transportation’s data says that an estimated 12,080 vehicles (on a daily average) traverse Harrison Road at the intersection of Piedmont Drive, traveling in both directions.  We can assume, therefore, that the opportunity exists for a minimum of 12,080 persons, on average per day, to view the beautiful sign that sits in front of the Little Church on the Side of the Road.  In this world of constant and large quantities of bombardment from many media sources, 12,080 folks a day is still a good-size audience.

This large and attractive sign, displaying a likeness of the Vision as it will appear when construction is completed, is the brainchild of Deacon Earl Goodson.  Brother Goodson spent well over a year working diligently on the design, construction, and installation of this sign.  He frequently consulted with the Building Planning Committee, the Architect, and with several sign-makers across the country.  It was he who procured the requisite permit from Spotsylvania County and who contacted the company that would install the sign.  And finally, for he knew that God would have wanted him to do so, Deacon Goodson personally oversaw our sign being set in place.

It should be mentioned that Deacon Goodson is also the member of our Church Family responsible for the establishment of Mount Zion’s website.  Using his God-given talents, Brother Earl designed, procured the necessary resources, and set up the Church’s presence on the World Wide Web.  He continues to maintain the site as its Webmaster, tirelessly updating and adding to the considerable graphical and textual information on a regular basis.  Our Church’s web site serves, as does the sign at the front of our property, as a professional (and a pleasingly visual) interface between Mount Zion and the world.  Both of these media vehicles present a face of our Church for the world to see.  (The Church’s site, by the way, can be viewed at www.mtzionbaptistspotsy.org)

Deacon Goodson designed both of these instruments primarily to publicize and celebrate the Vision.  The Building Project, which the church undertook to realize the Vision, continues unabated toward its inevitable fulfillment.  The Pastor has made us understand that the Vision was provided us by the Lord, and it is the Lord’s intention that we worship Him within the walls of  our new buildings. And so we shall. The Church’s leadership on this project, Pastor Wormley and Chairperson Allen Haymon, is always able to provide the direction and encouragement which fuel the work.  Mount Zion’s Planning Committee, continues to work harmoniously with the Spotsylvania County Planning Department and VDOT.  Continue on page 2
